Celebration of Peace, Love, and Harmony

Sunday, September 19th, 2010

September 21 is the International Day of Peace, or World Peace Day. Take it upon yourself to do a good deed for a stranger and believe that he/she will pay it forward. Start with a day then try it for a week, a couple weeks, a month…“The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) provides an opportunity for individuals, organizations and nations to create practical acts of peace on a shared date. It was established by a United Nations resolution in 1981 to coincide with the opening of the General Assembly. The first Peace Day was celebrated in September 1982.

In 2002 the General Assembly officially declared September 21 as the permanent date for the International Day of Peace.”

An advocate for world peace, Michael Jackson led alongside other world peace leaders like Mother Teresa, Gandhi, Deepak Chopra, and Oprah. His legacy not only lies in influencing music, but MJ influenced the world with his music. “Man in the Mirror” reminds and encourages us to aspire to be our own peace leader.

Representing more than just the hippie days of peace and love from the 1960s, here are some Peace merchandise from to help celebrate this 2010 Peace Day:

Flowers for every occasion

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

A bouquet of flowers is a classic gift for any occasion. Other than monetary gifts hidden in cute cards, flowers are the next easiest thing to meet the minimum expectations of the old adage, “it’s the thought that counts.” How could you go wrong? But perhaps, you find yourself worrying about sending the wrong message — Do you like him/her, and does he/she feel the same way? Should you be safe and send friendly yellow flowers? Take a chance and send loving red flowers? Or be confident by sending passionately bright orange flowers?

Try this fun, creative and different technique the next time you give flowers. It’s surely a step up in effort from rushing into the nearest flower shop on the way to the celebration. This way, with a fun swirl of colors, you don’t have to worry about sending the wrong message! It’s a great gift for anyone on your list.

multicolored roses

Color adds fun and vibrance to everything. Ask your kids or the neighborhood kids for help because this is usually done as a 4th grade science experiment.
It’s easy as 1-2-3!

making multicolored carnations

  1. Grab a bunch of flowers of your choice. This technique works well with roses, carnations, pompon, hydrangeas, orchids, or any flower with a lot of big petals. But that doesn’t mean it won’t work with your flower of choice.
  2. Pick your favorite food colorings and mix it with water, one cup for each color. Splice the stem into the same number of colors you’ll be dying the flower. Let it sit until the flower is the perfect color combination that you want.
  3. Finish it up in nice bouquet paper, rice paper, gift wrapping, or elegant vase. Present and be ready to receive an unrelenting wave of hugs and thank you’s.

This simple craft for homemade dyed flowers is a perfect way to adorn any occasion and accessorize any party’s color palette.
You can save the Red roses for Valentine’s!

Need a High School Graduation Gift

Monday, May 31st, 2010

High School Graduation is just days away.  I always find it difficult to know what to give a graduating senior. They are all so different and are going to pursue different things in the future. I sat with my High School Senior last night and surfed the web and came up with the following ideas. We have found great stuff from $15 and up.

This lap top lock  from Bed, Bath and Beyond is useful for any graduate you know.

CANON”S – Power shot 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera is a great camera.  College students can take tons of pictures so they will remember all their experiences. Best Buy is offering a great deal.

Some fun gifts can be found at

The Apple on Line store is also a great resource for gifts. Our favorite is And don’t

forget the great deal that offer college bound students deals on computers.

Are you Ready for the Summer?

Monday, May 17th, 2010

The weather was perfect this weekend. I took part in a street fair at PS 290, The Manhattan New School. Kids were running around, people were shopping and everyone seemed happy. After spending the day there, selling my wares and standing in the sun, I realized it time to get ready for the summer.

I actually got a sunburn. I didn’t even think about bringing suntan lotion. I never know which one to buy. I found a great site that rates the different lotions available which makes it so much easier.  Check it out:

Then of course, I need a new beach bag. I like to get a bag that is great for the beach or going to a pool but I also want it to be fashionable. This leopard bag by Scout is so cute. I can even just use it as a everyday bag.

I also love to hear music while hanging out but I don’t always want to be plugged in. This cool I-Pod case is also a speaker so you can share your music with you friends.

And last but not least, I love to have a fun beach towel that is easy to recognize.

I hope these ideas will get you motivated to prepare for the beautiful weather that is coming this summer!
